Constipation Dietary

Written by Mystic on Thursday, January 17, 2008

Constipation can really get your goat. It can literally be a pain in your behind. But sometimes we imagine a problem when we don't really have one, thanks to the bombardment of laxative advertisement. If your bowels don't move every day, please don't worry. It could just be your individuality asserting itself. But even if you do have constipation don't worry. We may be able to help you.

Dietary Help

If you are constipated, the first thing you should do is to check your diet. It should contain lots of liquids and dietary fiber to keep your stools soft and pass easily through the colon. Although any fluid will do the trick, the best is water. One should have atleast eight glasses of water or other fluids during the day. This requirement may change with the weather and the season of the year. As for fiber, if your diet has not contained much of it so far, increase your fiber intake slowly or you may suffer from gas. But what is fiber and where does it come from? It is present in complex carbohydrates such as those in whole grains (roties are an excellent source of fiber), fruits and vegetables.

While on diet, we must ask you to avoid oil slicks in your stomach. Oils in their natural forms, locked in wholesome foods usually do not harm you. If you have whole nuts or corn, the oil in them is released slowly in your body and does not line your stomach and intestine like oils that have been removed from their source, like for instance the oil one uses to fry food. These not only cause constipation but many other digestive problems. Adequate digestion may be delayed by 20 hours causing putrification, gas and toxins. This you definitely don't want.
